Daityas, Danavs, Asuras, and Rakshasas - The words are most familiar with Hindu Mythology. Perhaps, not many know about its origins and distinction. Asuras are mostly defined as power-hungry, corrupt, mighty, and mostly evil. But if one has to bridge the similarities, in simpler terms, Danav and Rakshasas are races of Asuras. Sage Kashyapa married thirteen daughters of Daksha. The sons from Kashyap and Danu became Danavs, and the ones from Kashyapa and Diti became Daityas. But Danav is usually considered superior and of pure origin race of Asuras. The Daityas are a minor race of Asuras.

The ancient mythologies are so complex and fascinating that an author only needs to dive in and pick out some beautiful traces of stories. Since childhood, I have always felt scared by the word Danav. It would usually induce the fear of mighty and disfigured monsters, ready to kill anyone. The words Asuras and Rakshasas seemed much simpler and understandable to me compared to Danavs. Illume is the ancient name of Earth. The civilizations that grew around us always had a villain and a god. For me, the story could not have become captivating without the antagonist, Danav. Though the Asuras at times produced righteous Kings, Danavs have always remained an unrighteous race of Asuras, who took pleasure in torture and were capable of magic and illusions.

As an author, I wanted Illume to find the roots of evil, the Asuras, to mix with the word Danav. The Danav, and the mythological Vritra (Also considered the first son of River Danu), aided by the perilous river Danu, would go side by side and lead the Asuras towards world domination.
